Hello there literature lovers!
Here is your first reading assignment from the YA Literature Corner. Head down to the Buffy Middle School Library and pick up your copy of The Giver by Lois Lowry. Read chapters 1 though 10 and be sure to post your comments and questions to the blog. In a few days I'll post some questions to get you thinking about what you're reading in chapters 1-10 of Lowry's The Giver.
About obtaining a copy of the reading assignment: I am setting a few copies of the book aside in our library for those of you following this blog. However, if you don't get down here in time to get your own personal hard copy, you can read the first 10 chapters of the book online for free through Google Book Search! Here's how:
Simply enter the following web address into your browser: http://books.google.com/ . Once you get there, type the title "the giver" into the search box at the top of the page and click on "Search Books". On the next page the first option in the search list should be The Giver by Lois Lowry. Click on this option and you can read the first 10 chapters right from your Internet browser! Be sure to ask any questions that you have about accessing this book for free on the Web right here on the blog.

What's to come?
Greetings Buffy Middle School Students!
I wanted to give you a heads-up about what's to come in the YA Literature Corner. I'll be posting reading assignments regularly along with some questions for your to ponder as you read. This will really get you thinking about the themes and characters presented in the books showcased in this blog. Not only will blogging about the books you read help you with that book report for your English class, but it will make reading and discussing what you read with your librarian, teachers, and friends an enjoyable experience.
As you read and discover, post your comments and questions to the blog so that we can all have a conversation about what books you like or don't like, and why!
